Hello!
We are Tom Nelan and Mitsuko Miyake Nelan, your Japanology Translation team.

Japanology Translation is the Japanese translator division of Japanology Kerry Consulting Ltd, founded by Tom and Mitsuko in 2016.

Unlike other translation agencies which are multi-language factories, we translate Japanese and English exclusively. Our philosophy is that it is better to be experts in one language pair than merely average in multiple.

We never use translation software, ever. Every translation we perform is 100% human. This avoids those "simple misses" that can happen when technology inevitably fails. That's the Japanology Translation difference.

Our lead translator is Mitsuko, was born and raised in Central Tokyo, Japan. She graduated from Chofu University, Tokyo, with a Masters Degree in Japanese Literature. Having moved from Japan in 2009, is a fluent English speaker and member of the I.T.I.A. (Irish Translators and Interpreters Association).

Tom is a native English speaker, born and raised in Kerry, Ireland. He is a New York qualified lawyer and Asian Studies graduate. Tom takes care of the customer service side of the business.

Working as a team, all translated documents are jointly proofread before they are delivered to the client. In our experience, it's just a better way to guarantee translation accuracy compared to a single translator working alone- as is often the case elsewhere. Meet The Japanology Translation Team

Lead Translator and Co-Director

Mitsuko Miyake Nelan

Mitsuko Miyake Nelan is a native Japanese speaker, having been born, raised and educated entirely in Tokyo.

Mitsuko moved to Ireland in 2009 and has lived there for 15 years. During that time she has immersed herself in native English speaking society, so much so that she became a naturalized citizen in 2014.

Before moving from Japan, Mitsuko graduated with a Masters in Japanese Literature from Chofu University, central Tokyo.
 
In 2016, Mitsuko co-founded Japanology Kerry Consulting Ltd with husband Tom. Later that year she went on to become a member of the Irish Translators and Interpreters Association (I.T.I.A.) and has been translating professionally ever since.

Tom Nelan

Translator and Co-Director

In 2015 Tom qualified from University College Cork with First Class Honours in Asian Business Studies and has lived in Tokyo for 3 years.
 
A native English speaker born and raised in Ireland, Tom first studied business and marketing at M.T.U., where he earned a Bachelor of Business Studies (Marketing) Degree.

He later went on to study law at University College Cork, where he graduated with an Honours level Bachelor of Civil Law Degree. He advanced to passing the New York Bar Exam and being accepted to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in the State of New York.

When not co-proofreading documents, Tom manages the customer service side of the business.
